I use painting as a place of solace, reflection and introspection. Any turbulence, excitement, or quiet in my life often shows up as color choices, brushstrokes, or distinct compositional decisions in my art. I treat painting as a mirror of the person I am in that very moment - as I age, it evolves with me.

The element of painting that initially attracted me was the explosive and liberating world of color. I found it was an outlet within art to express all of my emotional and literal experiences. Color has continued to have a strong conceptual pull on me and has been a basis for technical skill development in color theory and clarity.

Painting has given me a place to assiduously explore my personal identity, my community and social issues in a way other forms of expression have not. I explore the push and pull between technicality and conceptuality, particularly through color, composition, and value and paint through the lens of individual interpretation.

I love the idea that every observer gleans a unique, self-embodied interpretation from each work of art, and as I grow I hope to create art that feels both self-sufficient and inspiring to others.
